BACKGROUND STORY
Oh, oh... The Grungy Brothers, your local neighborhood anarchists, are
at it again! This time they have planted time bombs all over the Fenton
Building, a high-rise downtown office building. You are the bomb squad's
expert on this type of bomb, so it's your job to defuse as many of them
as possible without getting blown up yourself.
To make matters worse, the Grungy's have messed around with the elevator
controls. The elevators still work, but all the doors are locked into
the open position. Unfortunately, every time you get off the elevator
it is programmed to return to the lobby, so the open shaft is always a
danger as you do your work. If you're not careful, you might GET THE
SHAFT!
RULES OF PLAY
1. Select a difficulty level of zero to 20 bombs.
2. You start at the main entrance of the Fenton Building. You are
represented on the screen as a "happy face" because you enjoy your
work so much.
3. To explore the building use the arrow keys to move up/down/left/right.
The up/down keys will only work in the stairwell, or on the elevator.
4. The time bombs are identified as large numbers. The numbers are
"count down" numbers. When they get to "0", the bomb will soon
explode. The bombs have been randomly distributed throughout the
building.
5. The bombs count down at a rate of 10 seconds "real time" per count.
Therefore, a "0" bomb will go off in less than 10 seconds while a
"9" bomb has at least 90 seconds to go.
6. To defuse the bombs, simply move over them.
7. To use the elevator, move into the cab if it is there. If not, you must
move to the open shaft door and call the elevator by pressing either
"U" or "D". When on the elevator, use the up or down arrow keys to
drive it up and down the shaft. This is a "manual override," so it does
not matter which button you used to call the elevator.
8. If you do fall down the shaft, the game is over unless you fall only one
floor, in which case you can climb out and resume.
9. When all the bombs have either exploded or been defused, you may
continue exploring the building. End the game by either pressing the
ESC key or leaving the building. When you end the game your success
rate is announced. If you defused all the bombs, you will get a nice
telegram from Mr. Fenton himself.
10. To quit the game at any time press the ESC key.
11. To turn off the sound effects at any time, press the "S" key. Press it
again to restore sound.
HELPFUL HINTS
- You can get around much faster on the elevator than on the stairs, but
if you go too fast in your rush to the elevator you may get the shaft.
- Go for the bombs with the lowest numbers. If the number changes to "0"
before you get to it, you take a big risk in trying to defuse it, but it
is possible.
- Scan the whole building as soon as possible. If you get carried away
defusing bombs in the lower levels, some may be going off up in the
tower.
GOOD LUCK!
